The San Jose Sharks won the right to draft Boston University star Macklin Celebrini and the Detroit Red Wings stayed put at No. 15 pick as a result of Tuesday’s NHL Draft Lottery.
The San Jose Sharks have won the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery and can now select Macklin Celebrini. After a season of Slackin’ for Macklin in which the Sharks were the league’s worst team, there was no movement in the draft lottery odds keeping them locked in at first overall.
It will be a bit of a homecoming for Macklin Celebrini.
The Sharks finished the regular season with the NHL's worst record and had the highest odds going into Tuesday's lottery. The top 16 picks followed the standings exactly with no team moving up or down in the lottery.
The Sharks have officially won the race for superstar prospect Macklin Celebrini — the consensus top prospect in the 2024 NHL Draft. The franchise landed the top pick in this year's draft after going into the lottery as a favorite with an 18.5 percent chance.
