Twins' Rocco Baldelli seems happy to be rid of this lucky charm

The Minnesota Twins’ 12-game win streak was snapped by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, taking with it one lucky charm that manager Rocco Baldelli is not sad to see go.

For the last week, the Twins have been making use of a lucky home run sausage that players tap before going to the plate. The offense has been humming, making the sausage something of a ritual, despite the very real risk of it going quite bad.

After the Twins’ 9-2 loss, Baldelli said the sausage may already have been disposed of, or so he hopes. Still, he did not rule out the possibility of the team coming up with a new one.

Baseball players are not going to give up a lucky charm in the middle of a 12-game win streak, no matter how gross it might get. After all, players will do just about anything to get hits.

Still, this is one tradition that some, including Baldelli, might not be too unhappy to leave in the past.
