NBA ironman continues impressive streak

Mikal Bridges does not miss games.

On Sunday, the Nets forward extended his streak to 474 consecutive games played since he entered the NBA in the 2018-19 season. Bridges played 365 straight games for the Suns, his first team, and has since played 109 in a row for Brooklyn. The Villanova product entered the league having played all 116 games in college.

As such, his overall streak extends to 590 games across nine years — six in the pros and three in college.

While Bridges' league-best streak of 474 games is remarkable, he's got ways to go before catching the all-time record set by A.C. Green. The former Laker appeared in 1,192 consecutive games through the 1986-87 and 2000-01 seasons, which included stops in Dallas and Phoenix.

Bridges would have to play another eight full seasons (656 games) to get within 62 games of the record. He'd be 36 and entering his 15th NBA season. The chances of him catching Green are slim.

But Bridges could potentially catch Randy Smith's streak of 906 consecutive games (1971-72 to 1981-82), Michael Cage's 736 games (1987-88 to 1997-98) or John Stockton's 609 games (1989-90 to 1997-98).

Bridges' durability has made him one of the NBA's most coveted assets. The Rockets reportedly offered multiple first-round picks to the Nets ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline, only to be turned down.

With the Nets failing to make even the play-in, the Sean Marks-led front office could be forced to make some difficult calls this offseason. However, it won't be easy — the Nets don't have a first-round draft pick and have limited cap space to make any moves. Making a trade or two might be their best bet.
