Patrick Mahomes reveals big expectations for Chiefs' new playmaker

There's no arguing that the Chiefs needed to add to their wide receiver room after the group led the league in dropped passes (44) last season.

So, that's exactly what Kansas City did in free agency, signing wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a one-year, $7 million deal.

There's still some time between now and when the Chiefs will start doing on-field work at their facility, but QB Patrick Mahomes already has big expectations for the former first-round wide receiver.

"Hollywood, I think you obviously see the speed," Mahomes said. "I think he'll have a great role in this offense, the way he's able to run routes, the way he's able to stretch the field, I think it'll be even different than you've seen him before because I think we could utilize him in different ways that I think he has been utilized in yet."

Mahomes is referring to the offseason workouts he's held in Texas, which continued this year. That has given him a chance to create an early connection with Brown, who's caught his attention past just his speed.

"You see the speed instantly," Mahomes added. "But I think what I like so far is how hard he works. He's been at all the workouts and the route running, and he wants more, he wants to continue to push himself more and more."

Brown getting on Mahomes' good side will only help his production come the start of the 2024 season, but he's still going to have to prove it on the field.

The 26-year-old hasn't been able to return to his 2021 level of play when he had a career-high 91 catches for 1,008 yards. He's coming off arguably his worst season in the NFL, posting just 51 catches for 574 yards and four touchdowns.

Brown has dealt with some injuries during his two-year stint in Arizona, but he must prove to Kansas City he can be relied on.

Mahomes has done a lot more with a lot less. So, if Brown can finally reach his full potential in 2024, he'll give the Chiefs a great shot at becoming the first team in NFL history to ever win three straight Super Bowls.
