NHL betting: Odds for the three finalists for NHL's Vezina Trophy

While the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs begins to wrap up, the NHL has begun announcing the finalists for end-of-season awards. And if you haven't placed your bets on who will win the Vezina Trophy this year, you now have three finalists to choose from.

The league announced Sergei Bobrovsky, Thatcher Demko and Connor Hellebuyck on Monday as finalists for the NHL's coveted goaltending award, and all three were heavy favorites to win even at some point during the regular season.

Who should you put your money on? Let's take a look at the performance, and betting odds, for all three netminders.

Yardbarker discussed at the beginning of April that Bobrovsky -- then listed at 10-1 odds -- could be a worthy candidate to win the Vezina. When you look at goalies who led on the stats sheet throughout the entire regular season, however, Bob's candidacy is a bit of a headscratcher. The Florida Panthers starter tied for third in the regular season with 36 wins, however top billing for goals-against  and save percentage went to his backup, Anthony Stolarz. (And Bobrovsky didn't even break the top five for save percentage, while Stolarz topped the league with a .925.) Once you see that other netminders, including his teammate, had better stats through the regular season, it may make you question putting money on Bobrovsky to win the Vezina this year.

The same can't be said about Hellebuyck, who has been the runaway betting favorite in the Vezina race since early in the regular season. The Winnipeg Jets netminder furthered his case as the favorite at the tail end of the season when he shut out the Colorado Avalanche 7-0 during the Jets' season-ending eight-game winning streak. (And his current skid against the Avs in the playoffs won't count since the Vezina is a regular-season award.)

Keeping all of this in mind, Hellebuyck seems like a sure thing to bet on to win the award -- before you factor in Thatcher Demko.

The Vancouver Canucks starter was able to stay relatively healthy this season -- aside from some knee issues late in the season -- and put together one of his best campaigns to date. The California native made the top five across the league in goals-against average (2.45) and save percentage (.918) and finished in the three-way tie for second with five shutouts on the season. (Hellebuyck also had five shutouts, while Bobrovsky has six.)

Demko was listed at +2000 (20-1) to win the Vezina prior to being named a finalist, but seeing how close he and Hellebuyck are in the standings make him a worthy pick to win the NHL's award for superior goaltending.

The 2024 NHL Awards show will take place in Las Vegas on June 27, which gives you roughly two months to decide who you want to wager on to win the Vezina Trophy.
