Former Yankees infielder rips team after loss to Orioles

Former New York Yankees player Todd Frazier didn't hold back on Tuesday evening while discussing the club's second straight loss to the division-rival Baltimore Orioles.

"The biggest thing that goes unnoticed is the energy is down again," Frazier said about the Yankees during the YES Network postgame show, as shared by Bridget Hyland of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "We talked about that the other day: Where’s the energy? Where’s the enthusiasm? It feels like September and they’re out of it. You hate to say that, but you see [All-Star outfielder Juan Soto] at the end of the game, just sitting there, kind of bewildered."

Over the weekend, the Yankees earned wins of 15-3 and 15-5 over the Milwaukee Brewers, but their offense has since dried up. Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), New York went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position during Monday's 2-0 loss at Baltimore's Oriole Park at Camden Yards. In Tuesday's 4-2 defeat, the Bronx Bombers scored via solo home runs blasted by Soto and catcher Austin Wells.

Perhaps most worrisome for the Yankees, slugger Aaron Judge seemed to regress to his slumping ways, going 1-for-7 with a walk in the first two games of the Baltimore series.

"What is going on with the bats? Who’s going to step up? Nobody’s stepping up right now," Frazier added about the Yankees. "It seems like it is the end of the world for the Yankees when it is not, it’s still April."

The Yankees started the season at 10-2 but more recently dropped 4-of-6 games to fall to 19-12 for the campaign. While nobody within the Yankees organization should panic with over a month of games to go before summer arrives, Frazier's comment about Soto could raise eyebrows considering others have suggested any frustrations the 25-year-old feels about his situation could cause him to leave the club as a free agent this fall.

"You talk about the 15 runs, but you’ve got to move on," Frazier said about wins against Milwaukee that quickly became distant memories. "You’re playing better teams now."

Judge, Soto and the rest of the Yankees can respond to Frazier when New York again plays at 19-10 Baltimore on Wednesday evening.
