Giants WR shares confidence in holdout being 'resolved soon'

Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton has not been with the team since the beginning of voluntary offseason workouts as he seeks a contract extension heading into the final year of his current deal.

Slayton's future in New York is up in the air, especially after the team used the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on wide receiver Malik Nabers.

However, general manager Joe Schoen has said that drafting Nabers was not a sign that the Giants want to move on from Slayton.

"We already paid a roster bonus," Schoen said via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. "Us drafting Malik Nabers doesn't affect where we are on that."

Slayton backed that statement, revealing his representatives have spoken with Schoen and that he's "confident" the situation will be resolved before training camp or the regular season.

"I don't think it will get to that point," Slayton said. "Like I said, it's been good, constant communication throughout the whole process. It'll be resolved soon."

That's great news for New York, as Slayton led the team in receiving yards last season and four of the past five years.

Pairing him with Nabers, 2023 third-round pick Jalin Hyatt and 2022 second-round pick Wan'Dale Robinson would give QB Daniel Jones, by far, his best set of weapons since entering the league.

Giants fans have a right to hold their breath until the situation is officially resolved as the team could still opt to trade him for the right price.

Slayton clearly understood that when he spoke on Wednesday night at the annual Gridiron Gala, where he received an award from the United Way for his work with the community.

"I'd like to be here, of course," Slayton added. "I've enjoyed my time as a Giant, and I'd like to remain a Giant. Hopefully, that will be the result of this."
