The Buffalo Bills needed to give quarterback Josh Allen wide receiver help this offseason, and they continued that process on Friday by taking a dive into the NFL's pile of reclamation projects.
The team signed veteran wide receiver Chase Claypool to a one-year deal, becoming the latest team to try and maximize his talent and potential and turn him into something productive.
So far, every team that has tried has failed to do so.
New faces in Buffalo.

Claypool was originally selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and burst onto the scene with a huge rookie season that saw him catch 62 passes for 873 yards and score 13 total touchdowns.
Given his size and early production, he looked like he was on a path toward stardom.
But his production steadily dropped after that as the Steelers became frustrated with his lack of progress and inability to effectively use his size to make tough catches in traffic. They eventually traded him to the Chicago Bears at the 2022 trade deadline for a second-round pick that ended up being the No. 32 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. They used that pick to select cornerback Joey Porter Jr.
After struggling to find consistency and playing time with the Bears, Claypool got another fresh start in Miami when he was traded for a sixth-round pick.
It seemed like a good opportunity in a high-powered offense with a top-level quarterback, but he again struggled to get playing time and caught just four passes for 26 yards in nine games.
If it does not work for Claypool in Buffalo with Josh Allen as his quarterback, it is worth wondering if he will ever become a consistent player in the NFL. Given the way his previous three stops have gone, it definitely seems unlikely.
The Bills have completely overhauled their wide receiver room this offseason, trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans and losing Gabriel Davis in free agency to the Jacksonville Jaguars. They made a couple of free agent signings by adding Curtis Samuel from the Washington Commanders and Mack Hollins from the Atlanta Falcons while also selecting Keon Campbell in the second-round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
It remains to be seen if all of the new faces will produce better results. The pressure is definitely on for the Bills to not waste another season of Allen's prime years.
