Giants trade up to select QB Daniel Jones' replacement in 2025 mock draft

Daniel Jones' days as the New York Giants starting quarterback seem numbered. When he ultimately takes his final snap in the Big Apple is debatable, but one analyst believes the franchise will go to great lengths to find his replacement in next April's NFL Draft. 

In his way-too-early 2025 mock draft, Jordan Reid of ESPN has the Giants moving up to No. 1 via trade to select Georgia quarterback Carson Beck. 

"The Giants showed some faith in Daniel Jones recapturing his 2022 form off his torn ACL this season by passing on the quarterbacks still on the board at No. 6," Reid wrote. "But things could change by this time next year, especially since there will be no more guaranteed money on Jones' contract." 

Jones agreed to a four-year, $160 million extension with the Giants just ahead of the franchise-tag deadline in May 2023. The deal, which pays the former first-rounder $82 million over the first two years, also includes a potential out for New York before the 2025 campaign. 

As Reid mentioned, despite having the opportunity to choose a QB from arguably one of the deepest draft classes in recent memory, the Giants instead gave Jones another weapon, choosing LSU wideout Malik Nabers with the sixth pick. However, rumors of the team's interest in possibly moving up to take North Carolina QB Drake Maye found their way to Jones, who said he was worried more about what he can control, adding he's in a "good spot" following a season-ending ACL injury last November. 

While Jones might be looking over his shoulder this time next year, some believe he should be concerned about losing his job before that. Recently, NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah said he thought former Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos signal-caller Drew Lock had a "really good" shot at winning the Giants starting gig. 

Over five seasons with the Giants, Jones has dealt with multiple neck injuries and a torn ACL, all while failing to live up to high expectations coming out of Duke. It appears he'll get one more shot to prove that he's the QB who posted a 9-6-1 record in 2022 and not the one who went 13-30 over the other four. But to say he's on the hot seat entering the 2024 season would be a massive understatement.
