Watch: Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei breaks tie with incredible goal
Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei broke a 1-1 tie with an absolute heater in the second period of Game 1 in Boston's second-round series with the Panthers.
Defenseman Parker Wotherspoon recorded an assist on the goal, sending the puck to Lohrei, who ripped a shot that Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky had no chance to deflect.
Lohrei, a Baton Rouge native, was selected in the second round (58th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft and made his league debut this season. He appeared in 41 games, scoring four goals.
His make against the Panthers was his first postseason goal and first in any game since Feb. 29 against the Vegas Golden Knights. Earlier in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he became the first Louisiana-born player to record a point in postseason history when he had an assist in Game 4 in the first round against the Maple Leafs, and he's now the first from the state to score a goal in the playoffs.
Roughly three minutes later, Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo added a third goal for Boston as it took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
