Watch: U.S. House Representative shouts out Eagles draft pick during speech to Congress

United States House Representative Marcy Kaptur of Ohio gave a special shoutout to cornerback Quinyon Mitchell during a speech to Congress on Tuesday.

The Democratic congresswoman represents Ohio's ninth congressional district, which includes Toledo. Mitchell played four seasons with the Rockets before the Philadelphia Eagles selected him with the 22nd overall pick in April's NFL Draft.

The 77-year-old Kaptur is the longest-serving woman in congressional history, joining the chamber in 1983.

Both safety Tycen Anderson and cornerback Samuel Womack were picked out of Toledo in the 2022 event and defensive end Desjuan Johnson was taken during the 2023 draft. Anderson was selected in the fifth round by the Cincinnati Bengals, Womack was chosen six picks later (172nd overall) by the San Francisco 49ers and Johnson was picked by the Los Angeles Rams in the seventh round last year.

Mitchell finished first in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in passes defended in 2022 and 2023 with 19 and 18, respectively. Those numbers had him ranked second in the NCAA in both seasons, and he ranks second in MAC history (third in NCAA) with 45 career passes defended.

Mitchell is projected to start opposite six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay in Philadelphia's secondary in the fall.
