The Calgary Flames will draft 9th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft
Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

The Calgary Flames were involved in the 2024 National Hockey League draft lottery on Tuesday evening. They did not win the two drawings to determine the first and second overall selections in the 2024 NHL Draft. The Flames did not win either draw, and so they’re going to be allocated the ninth overall selection in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft (and the ninth pick in every subsequent round).

The Flames have selected at ninth overall twice previously in franchise history, taking Brent Krahn in 2000 and Dion Phaneuf in 2003. (They also were allotted the ninth overall pick in 2002, but traded back by one spot and selected Eric Nystrom at 10th overall).

Here are the selections the Flames presently control (via Cap Friendly):

  • 1st round, 9th overall
  • 1st round, TBD (Vancouver’s pick)
  • 2nd round, 41st overall
  • 2nd round, TBD (Dallas’ pick)
  • 3rd round, 74th overall
  • 3rd round, 84th overall (Vegas’ pick)
  • 4th round, 106th overall
  • 4th round, 107th overall (New Jersey’s pick)
  • 6th round, 170th overall

Calgary’s fifth-round pick was traded to Chicago prior to the 2022 trade deadline in exchange for Ryan Carpenter.

Calgary’s seventh-round pick was traded to Seattle prior to the 2022 trade deadline in exchange for Calle Jarnkrok.

The 2024 NHL Draft takes place June 28 & 29 in Las Vegas.
