Buffalo Bills’ GM Says Josh Allen Is ‘Pumped’ About This Draft Pick

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills were in desperate need of a wide receiver entering the NFL Draft, and they were able to find what they hope is their answer in Keon Coleman.

The Bills selected Coleman in the second round of the draft last Thursday, and general manager Brandon Beane says that Allen is pumped about the addition.

“Josh is crazy about the draft process. He loves it,” Beane said, via Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “If I get a call from Josh in the offseason, it’s usually him seeing somebody on a highlight, running into somebody, throwing with somebody — just something to ask me what I think about this guy. He called me at the Senior Bowl (asking) what do I think about a couple of guys there. So he loves it.”

Buffalo traded down twice in the early stages of the draft, first sending the 28th overall pick to the Kansas City Chiefs in a deal that sent No. 32 back to the Bills. Then, Buffalo swung a trade with the Carolina Panthers in which it jettisoned the 32nd pick to the Panthers and received No. 33 in the package.

The Bills used the 33rd pick—the first selection of the second round—to take Coleman.

“And he liked a lot of the guys, he really did. But Keon was one — I know he liked him a lot, too,” added Beane. “And Josh and I didn’t speak on Thursday, really. Maybe he stopped by that morning. But that next day, Friday morning, he FaceTimed me. Actually, I was still at home before I headed in here. And he was like, ‘What are you thinking?’ And I said, ‘Well, barring somebody blowing me away, I’m going to take Keon.’ And he was pretty pumped.”

Coleman is a big target at 6-foot-4 and should immediately become one of Allen’s top receivers, as Buffalo subtracted both Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason.

The Florida State product is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he caught 60 passes for 658 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Coleman began his collegiate career at Michigan State in 2021, logging seven catches for 50 yards and a score during his freshman season. The following year, Coleman broke out, hauling in 58 receptions for 798 yards while reaching the end zone seven times.

Prior to adding Coleman, the Bills’ receiving corps consisted of Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel and a whole lot of unproven talent, so he should be a welcomed addition for Josh Allen and Co.

Keon Coleman represents the only wide out Buffalo drafted in 2024.
