Gervonta Davis Responds to Frank Martin Insult

On June 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Gervonta “Tank” Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) will face Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) on a Premier Boxing Champions card streamed on Amazon Prime. “Tank” will be defending his WBA lightweight title. The co-feature event will see the much-anticipated next fight for David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) as he steps up to light heavyweight to face Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) for the WBC interim light heavyweight belt. Ahead of the first fight in 2024 for Tank, he has responded to an insulting tweet from Martin.

The insults for the June 15 card have begun, with “The Ghost” tweeting Martin: “Yeah iight b---- you know you betta be in tht gym.” Davis has since responded: “On my mother I didn’t see this..but it’s on now! I promise you.” Build-ups to Tank fights are entertaining, and it appears the southpaw from Baltimore is ready to return to the ring in style and show why he is considered one of the most talented fighters on the planet.

Davis last fought in April 2023, when he impressively stopped Ryan Garcia, who scored an upset win over Devin Haney on April 20.

Martin is highly thought of by many in the boxing world and is undefeated. Last time out, he beat Artem Harutyunyan in a close unanimous decision win. “The Ghost” uses impressive footwork to control the distance in his fights and picks his punches well. His footwork will need to be at its best to negate the exceptional ability of “Tank” to punch from varying angles.

Davis Legal Woes

Davis has made the headlines for his legal troubles rather than his boxing ability since the win over Garcia. “Tank” was sentenced to 90 days house arrest, probation and community service time in connection to his February guilty plea to charges from his November 2020 automobile accident.

Due to a violation of his house arrest – the Baltimore native was then ordered to serve the rest of his 90-day sentence in jail as a result. The return of Davis is a massive boost for boxing, which has enjoyed some great cards in Saudi Arabia and around the world.
