Ka-Kaw, Ka-Kaw. In Week 6 of the UFL, the St. Louis BattleHawks touched the sky with a soaring 22-8 victory over the Houston Roughnecks.
The Dome at America’s Center was sold out again as the game set another great attendance. In week 6 of the UFL, the game was played before 32,969 fans.
This week proves St Louis fans still love their pro football despite losing the Rams to LA.
The (5-1) BattleHawks defense kept the (1-5) Roughnecks offense off the scoreboard for the first 47 minutes of the game.
This developed a scoreless streak for opposing offenses of 77:02 going back to the 45-12 win over the D.C. Defenders.
The scoreless run halted when Houston tailback Mark Thompson buried his way for a 16-yard touchdown. This cut the score to 14-6, St. Louis.
With the score 14-8 late in the game, the BattleHawks scored one more time to win the contest, 22-8. The BattleHawks made big plays and earned the win in the end.
Nevertheless, they will need to clean things up next week as they travel to Birmingham to face the red-hot Stallions, who just might be the kings of Spring football.
That game will be one of the best games in week 7, so get your saddles ready and giddy up.
While teams don’t believe in participation trophies, the Roughnecks should consider this game a moral victory. Defensively, they played well enough to stay in the game.
The offense only scored one touchdown which meant a tired defense eventually wore out.
In other words, Houston needed to complete one more drive and they could have pulled out a giant upset.
Houston will look to play for pride in week 7 at home vs. the San Antonio Brahmas in another battle of Texas teams.
In other week 6 news, the UFL won’t stop setting major achievements in only year one of the merger between the XFL and USFL.
For starters, 18 UFL television broadcasts are averaging out to 845,000 viewers.
These numbers are a 25% increase from last year’s average for all regular season games played through week 5 in the USFL and XFL. They are also up 38% over the 2023 average of both XFL and USFL beyond all TV networks.
While Network broadcasts are averaging 958k viewers, basic cable broadcasts are averaging 680k viewers. In other words, people really like spring football and the concept of football all year long.
Through five weeks, ESPN’s digital studio show, UFL Today’s average is up 33% from last year’s average.
On March 30th, an average of 1.35 million fans watched the Michigan Panthers beat the St. Louis BattleHawks on FOX, 18-16.
With the uprising and increased interest in the UFL, at least 250 thousand excited fans have gone to UFL games so far.
The UFL could potentially compete with and possibly beat out ratings for the NBA, NHL, and other spring sports broadcasts.
