Latest Devils Odds for the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery
Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The fact that the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery means something for the New Jersey Devils just might be sending a chill down your spine as you’re reading this. However, the fact of the matter is it’s true. The Devils could, in fact, steal the No.1 overall selection.

Tonight, the Deputy Commissioner of the NHL, Bill Daly, will flip the flashcards on live television at 6:30 p.m. to reveal the first 16 picks of the NHL Draft that’s set to take place on June 28th & 29th.

It’s a deep pool of prospects waiting to be selected by an NHL team with Macklin Celebrini sitting as the top prize.

If nothing changes for New Jersey in terms of their projected spot in line, they’ll select 10th overall on June 28th barring a potential Devils trade to address a laundry list of needs this summer, something General Manager Tom Fitzgerald is certainly contemplating.

However, the Devils have a 3.5% chance to move up nine spots to first overall which would allow them to select Celebrini.

If not the first overall selection, the Devils could win the second overall pick, although the chances aren’t much higher than the first at just 3.7%. The furthest down the draft order the Devils could move up to is third overall, though, their odds to take No.3 are the lowest among the lowest at 0.1%.

Moving up isn’t the only possibility, however. The Devils could slip lower than 10th overall if things really don’t go their way, with an 18.4% chance to fall to 11th overall, and a 0.9% chance to fall to 12th overall.

The Devils have a 73.3% chance to remain at 10th overall.

A Devils trade involving their first-round pick already wasn’t out of the question and could become more likely if they happen to fall any further.

The San Jose Sharks (25.5%), Chicago Blackhawks (13.5%), and Anaheim Ducks (11.5%) are the three likeliest to be awarded the first overall selection.

However, not far behind those three are the Columbus Blue Jackets — the only Metropolitan Division rival ahead of the Devils — who have a 9.5% chance to win the first overall selection.
