Green Bay Packers GM Doesn’t Hold Back About Jordan Love
Dan Powers/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Green Bay Packers took a huge risk when they decided to hand the reins of their offense over to quarterback Jordan Love. Love, a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, sat for three years behind Aaron Rodgers before being named the team’s starter.

Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets during the 2023 offseason, clearing the way for the Utah State product to enter the lineup. Many people were skeptical the move would work in the Packers’ favor, going from a Hall of Famer to a late first-round pick again.

Could that have been more hopefulness than actual analysis from people? When Rodgers was traded, the Green Bay Packers ended what had been three decades of Hall of Fame performance, going from Brett Favre to Rodgers. It couldn’t happen again with Jordan Love, could it?

At the beginning of his tenure, it certainly looked like the excellent run of quarterback production would come to an end. The team was 3-6, losers in five out of their last six games and looking to be in at the start of what could be a lengthy rebuild.

From Week 11 on, something clicked. Jordan Love found his groove and things started turning around. The Packers ripped off three straight wins, getting back to the .500 mark before a two-game losing streak. With the season on the line, he took his production to another level.

In the final three games of the regular season, all Green Bay Packers victories, Love completed 73.5 percent of his passes for 1,075 yards with nine touchdowns and zero interceptions. That was enough to help the team earn a Wild Card berth and a matchup with the Dallas Cowboys in the postseason.

Love would torch them, going 16-of-21 for 272 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions in a 48-32 victory. They would be defeated by the San Francisco 49ers the next week, but it is clear that Love is their guy under center.

Recently, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst made an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio and spoke glowingly of his franchise quarterback. “He played at a very, very high level at the second half of last year and I think sky’s the limit for him,” Gutekunst said.

Expectations are on the rise for the Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love is at the center of that. Many evaluators believe they are set to take that next step in Year 2 post-Rodgers, as some have even predicted a Super Bowl run during the 2024 season.
