The Chicago Bears 2024 NFL Draft class was already a major success before the first round of the draft even ended. However, the best move the Bears made during the weekend might not have been on opening night when the team selected Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze.
According to ESPN's NFL insider Jeremy Fowler , the Bears' decision to draft Kiran Amegadjie with the 75th overall pick might end up looking better for Bears' general manager Ryan Poles.

*Lots of WR dominoes, trade talk
*Penix context
*Eagles praise
*An unexpected GM swerve
*Sleepers, depth chart risers
*Did Denver try to trade to 9? (or a bluff)

The decision to draft an offensive tackle in the third round out of Yale was a surprise to many looking from the outside but it seems like the Bears got insane value after drafting Amegadjie in the third round.
Beyond having insanely high upside at the position, Fowler revealed that according to multiple scouts he spoke with "Amegadjie could have been a top-45 pick if not for a quad injury that thwarted his participation in the Senior Bowl."
Despite his injury, Amegadjie still met with the Bears multiple times and spoke with teams during the NFL Scouting Combine to raise his interest with potential teams.
Fowler also noted that the Bears also considered drafting a defensive lineman with the 75th overall selection but opted to "bet big on the highest player on their board, knowing he'd be gone a few picks after if they didn't act."
While adding a defensive lineman such as Penn State's Adisa Isaac or Houston Christian's Jalyx Hunt to pair with Montez Sweat would have been nice, the Bears decided the best course of action was to snatch their guy on the offensive line as soon as possible before the next run at the position started back up.
As Fowler further explained, after the Bears selected Amegadjie, the "Raiders and Colts both selected offensive tackles shortly after Chicago did." The Raiders ended up with Maryland's Delmar Glaze with the 77th overall pick while the Colts drafted Pittsburgh's Matt Goncalves with the 79th overall pick. So, the move clearly paid off.
The Bears still managed to find their defensive end after moving back into the fifth round to select Kansas' Austin Booker and the front office is already ecstatic about the player they ended up with in the third round considering the team already has big plans for how they want to use Amegadjie on offense.
According to the team's general manager, Amegadjie will initially be used as the team's swing tackle while he continues to develop at the position and even can offer some versatility at guard if the team decides to move him there. Long-term, Amegadjie will also more than likely get the opportunity to compete as the team's starting left tackle considering Braxton Jones has two years remaining on his contract.
Overall, it was a high-upside pick the Bears made after benefiting from an unfortunate injury that allowed Amegadjie to fall right into their laps. Once again, everything seemed to work out perfectly for the Bears during the draft.
