For the second year running, the Las Vegas Raiders faced a challenge in securing the quarterback they needed. Last season, they were rumored to be considering a trade-up for C.J. Stroud. This year, they had their sights set on Michael Penix at No. 13, only to be thwarted by the Atlanta Falcons. Despite these setbacks, the Raiders have shown resilience and adaptability in their pursuit of a solution.
Undeterred by their quarterback challenges, the Raiders have taken a proactive approach to their offensive strategy. They have bolstered their offensive line and added a variety of weapons to support their quarterbacks. Recent additions include Jalen Guyton and Michael Gallup, along with two top football players from the draft. This proactive approach shows the Raiders' commitment to finding a solution.
Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew may not be the long-term answer, but the Raiders could always try something else. In fact, Jackson Powers-Johnson had the perfect idea to fix their quarterback issue in 2024. When asked about the positions he played in college and what he was willing to do in the pros, JPJ had the perfect answer.
"My first two years at Oregon were at guard, so I'm just excited. Anywhere that the Raiders want me to play, I'm going to play," JPJ said. "If they want me to throw the ball, I'll throw the ball. But I really think my playing center is going to be seamless, and it's just kind of a testament to all the coaches I've had in Oregon and high school."
Obviously, he is just kidding. Unless he is good at throwing the ball, the Raiders might not be opposed to the idea. In all seriousness, signing all the guys they have and drafting all the players they have were planned to help the quarterbacks. Whoever the quarterback may be should have much more success than the Raiders' offense did last season.
As the backup, Gardner Minshew was good enough to get his team very close to the playoffs last season. O'Connell was a rookie last year and may have taken a jump with his game. We just don't know what will happen yet. But it's looking good so far.
