Las Vegas Raiders legend and Hall of Famer shares his thoughts on controversial 2024 draft pick
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders sprung a surprise when they announced Brock Bowers as their pick at No. 13. The unexpected move by the Atlanta Falcons to draft Michael Penix at No. 8 threw everything off. The Raiders' decision to prioritize an offensive weapon over a cornerback or offensive tackle left many fans and analysts in awe.

The Raiders opted for the 'best available' approach in a strategic move. They selected Brock Bowers, who is widely regarded as the best overall player in the draft despite not playing the most crucial position. This decision underscores the Raiders' focus on talent and potential rather than positional importance.

A lot of fans were upset about the pick, and I can imagine why. The team drafted Michael Mayer last season, and his potential is sky-high. But one NFL legend and Hall of Famer broke it down perfectly.

"Everybody was texting me, 'Why did they pick another tight end? Why? Why? Why?' Well, you know, I think in the offense that they want to run, you have to have two tight ends to make this thing happen," NFL Hall of Famer and Raiders legend Tim Brown said. "[There's] a lot of play action, possibly, if they are going to run the ball the way I think they want to. So, I think it's a great pick, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do."

Tim Brown is one of the greatest wide receivers of all time, and he played in an elite offense as an elite offensive player. I think I'll trust what he says. Not to mention, the way the Raiders want to play football on offense in 2024 is very similar to how they played when Brown played.

The move makes perfect sense, and Mr. Raider agrees, too.
