Brock Purdy seems to have gotten a new fan and this time, a big one in former San Francisco 49ers star Alex Smith. After head coach Kyle Shanahan , if anyone is believing the young quarterback is a ‘real deal,’ it’s Smith.
During a recent appearance on 95.7 The Game‘s “Willard and Dibs,” the former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst showered high praises on Purdy after being amused by his rapid rise. Smith elaborated on how impressed he is by the second-year quarterback, who swiftly took the lead following Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo’s demise as the Niners starters.
It's the real deal. Brock [Purdy] is the real deal. I mean, I think for everybody out there trying to say he's a product of the situation. Listen, is Kyle [Shanahn] a great offensive coordinator? Smith highlighted how Purdy was leading every category, last season while taking the 49ers straight to the Super Bowl in his second year in the NFL. The former 49ers QB believes Purdy possesses something that can’t be taught, and that’s “fearless in his pockets.”
There have been a handful of debates on whether the 49ers quarterback can be a potential great player. But when asked Smith, he firmly replied with a big ‘yes.’ He claimed that Purdy is the most courageous player in the entire league, with a compelling argument.
I know that maybe doesn't sound like a lot, but standing in the pocket with all these... these guys trying to kill you, like, there's so many guys that don't have that. Alex Smith argued
Moreover, Smith also pointed out that Purdy has proven himself worthy of the high praise of a good athlete, whenever he has gotten an opportunity to “use his legs.” The analyst predicted a long future for the quarterback and the upcoming seasons with him in the lead would sure be one of the most thrilling parts of the NFL seasons.
