Denny Hamlin claims NASCAR 'should be going back to' Chicagoland Speedway

Chicagoland Speedway is one of the many tracks that NASCAR owns and runs, that are now without a race date. The series raced there till 2019, before removing it from the schedule and since then none of the national NASCAR championships have hosted races in the 1.5 miles track at Illinois.

But now, Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin has advocated for the return of the tri-oval to the sport. In the latest episode of his Action Detrimental podcast, his co-host Jarred Allen asked him about the tracks NASCAR should make a return to. He was quick to name the track that has the capacity to host 47,000 fans.

We should be going back to Chicagoland, for sure. Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.

It would be nice to see NASCAR going back to a track with such prestige and potential like Chicagoland. The track being a 1.5-mile oval would is a big asset in the Next-Gen era, as the cars have been producing some of the best races of all time in intermediate tracks. It would be a win-win situation for NASCAR.

Denny Hamlin is not in favor of sacrificing the Chicago Street Race Chicagoland

When Hamlin advocated for Chicagoland, his co-host Allen had a serious question. He asked the three times Daytona 500 winner, that should the Chicago Street Race lose it’s date for the track’s return. Hamlin was against it as he believes there is room for both and it’s some other track that should be removed.

I think there is room for both. Denny Hamlin added.

It would be interesting see which Track would lose its race date, if NASCAR wants to get back to Chicagoland. There will not be decision that would make all race fans happy, as most probably it would be a short track that is going to lose a date. So, NASCAR has some huge challenges on their shoulders to make the final call.
