Red Bull appear to be in shambles ever since the announcement of Adrian Newey ‘s departure trundled the paddock. This raised multiple questions regarding the future of key personnel of the team, including Helmut Marko , who was rumored to have been considering a move to Mercedes. However, Red Bull CEO, Oliver Mintzlaff has claimed that it is impossible for the Austrian to move to Brackley anytime soon.
Red Bull has been under a constant power struggle ever since the start of the 2024 season. The situation appeared to get better as their on-track performances improved but the bombshell news of Adrian Newey’s departure created havoc in the team. This in turn led to speculations of both Max Verstappen and Helmut Marko to leave the team soon and look for a possible move to Mercedes.
However, Oliver Mintzlaff completely denied the possibility of the Austrian moving to the German outfit.
Him[Helmut Marko] at Mercedes? I think he's out of the question. Helmut is closely linked to Red Bull and we owe him a lot, he even had the courage to bring Max to F1 at just 17 years old. Oliver Mintzlaff said in an interview with Bild
The 48-year-old claimed that Marko leaving Red Bull should not even be taken into consideration. Furthermore, he claimed that he is closely linked to the team’s hierarchy, and Red Bull owes Marko a lot for his services over the years. The 80-year-old is one of the main pillars around whom the Milton-Keynes-based team revolves.
Mintzlaff had urged the team to restore its peaceful working environment and asked the key figures to have trust in the management. However, this was not accepted by Adrian Newey, as the Brit decided to leave the team after a long and successful stint spanning almost two decades.
Mintzlaff deemed the 65-year-old the pillar behind Red Bull’s success.
He played an important role in winning 13 world titles and it is obviously a shame that he is leaving us. But we discussed it in a very correct and respectful conversation. He leaves not only a unique legacy but a structure that he helped build. He will be missed, but we will still know how to build very fast F1 cars. Oliver Mintzlaff said in an interview with Bild
The Red Bull CEO commended the Englishman for his efforts for the Milton Keynes-based outfit. Furthermore, he claimed that Newey leaves behind a huge legacy at Red Bull and will be remembered as the greatest designer that the team has ever worked with.
Mintzlaff then shifted his views and claimed that the Austrian giant would not forget how to build fast cars without Newey. On the other hand, their rivals claim that the Brit’s departure is the first domino to fall in a sequence of major departures. Nonetheless, Red Bull could either fall down the order or extend its lead, the following few months will explain where the team is headed to.
