The Chicago White Sox are in the running as the worst team in major league baseball in the 2024 season, which has led to White Sox rumors already swirling. They are tied for the fewest wins in the league, along with the Colorado Rockies, with only eight.
The White Sox and Rockies are the only two teams remaining that have yet to reach the double-digit win mark. But, some people may give the edge to the Rockies as not being the worst team, because they can at least hit a little bit.
Colorado has 123 runs scored this season; the Chicago White Sox have a paltry 100 through 34 games. Injuries to Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert Jr. took their two best hitters out of the mix, which has led to some truly embarrassing results at the plate.
Three of their listed starters on Baseball Reference are hitting under .200. Only three players on the active roster have an OPS+ of at least 100, which is considered league average. Not surprisingly, their 71 OPS+ ranks last.
For how poor the hitting has been, the pitching hasn’t been much better. There is one starting pitcher, Erick Fedde, with an ERA under 4.85. Chicago has a team ERA of 4.96, which is third to last in baseball.
Given their performance to this point, it should come as no surprise that Chicago White Sox rumors involve them being sellers ahead of the MLB trade deadline. According to MLB Deadline News on X, they are going to be open for business.
Essentially any veteran that is healthy on the roster can be acquired for the right price. They named Fedde, Chris Flexen, Mike Clevenger, Michael Kopech, Eloy Jimenez and Tommy Pham as trade candidates.

Whatever the Chicago White Sox can get in a trade, they should jump at the opportunity. This looks like a team in the early stages of a rebuild, as the all-time record for losses in a season could be challenged by this year’s club.
