Two of Bob Baffert’s Preakness Stakes (G1) candidates, Muth and Imagination, worked six furlongs in company Saturday at Santa Anita.
Also working was Grade 1 winner Tamara, who is on the comeback trail for trainer Richard Mandella.
Muth, working on the inside, and Imagination each earned a bullet when clocked in 1:11.40. Muth is exiting a win in the Arkansas Derby (G1) at Oaklawn Park March 30. Imagination most recently was second by a neck to Stronghold in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) April 6.
The Preakness Stakes is in two weeks at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. In this weekend’s Preakness Stakes Future Wager Pool, which closes at 3 p.m. (PT). Muth was trading as the 7-2 favorite Saturday morning. Imagination was 19-1.
Muth, by Good Magic, is 6: 4-2-0 with $1,504,100 in earnings. Imagination, an Into Mischief colt, is 6: 2-4-0 with $406,800.
Tamara worked four furlongs in :47.80. It was her sixth work since April 4.
Produced by Hall of Famer Beholder, Tamara hasn’t started since finishing seventh as the favorite Nov. 3 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa Anita. She exited the race with a left hind leg injury that required time off.
Prior to the Breeders’ Cup, the Bolt d’Oro filly won the Del Mar Debutante (G1) at Del Mar for owner-breeder Spendthrift Farm.
