The NHL announced Wednesday that Colorado Avalanche star defender Cale Makar has been chosen as one of the three finalists for the Norris Trophy.
The James Norris Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the defenseman who “demonstrates the greatest all-around ability in the position throughout the entire season.”
The winner of this award is selected in a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) at the end of the regular season.
Makar finished the regular season having played 77 games, recording 21 goals and 69 assists for 90 total points. He has been nominated for the award the past four seasons, including 2023-24. Makar was awarded the Norris Trophy in 2021-22.
The other finalists are Nashville’s Roman Josi, and betting-odds favorite, Quinn Hughes of Vancouver.
