Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase 4 shows & films, ranked

If you're like me, you've probably completely lost track of how many Marvel Cinematic Universe phases there are and which one we are currently in. Here is a reminder of the "Phase Four" Marvel films, series, miniseries, specials, and shorts, ranked from worst to best.

'I Am Groot' (2022)

'I Am Groot' (2022)
Disney

Don't get me wrong, I love Groot and think this series is cute (rhyme unintentional), but it doesn't hold a candle to everything else Marvel put out in Phase Four. I Am Groot is only rated so low because it is a short, but rest assured, "we are (still) Groot."

'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' (2021)

'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' (2021)
Disney

I wasn't really sure about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier going into it, and rightfully so. Despite the slow buildup, the series had its moments. I enjoyed Sam and Bucky's camaraderie at times, but it just wasn't my favorite.

'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' (2022)

'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' (2022)
Disney

I was not in a hurry to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever because Chadwick Boseman wouldn't be in it. The first film was so great, but this one did surprise me when I found myself tearing up toward the end. Also, Angela Bassett and Danai Gurira gave performances of a lifetime.

'Eternals' (2021)

'Eternals' (2021)
Disney

Eternals has gotten a lot of unnecessary hate. I don't know if it's anyone's favorite of the entire MCU, but it was unique. The cast was wonderful, and I especially loved Kumail Nanjiani's character's backstory.

'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' (2021)

'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' (2021)
Disney

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was so much fun and full of laughs. The casting and choreography were perfect, and it was great to see Wong and even Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery again.

'Werewolf by Night' (2022)

'Werewolf by Night' (2022)
Disney

I waited a while to watch this one, but Werewolf by Night surprised me. I love the stylization and the story, plus the characters were very engaging. Ted is obviously the best part and the unsung hero of this special.

'Ms. Marvel' (2022)

'Ms. Marvel' (2022)
Disney

Ms. Marvel is just that — a marvel! Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan is a match made in heaven. I lowkey forgot this was only a miniseries; I enjoyed it that much. I know this is a Phase Four list, but her joining forces with Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau in The Marvels is one you have to see!

'Black Widow' (2021)

'Black Widow' (2021)
Disney

The much-anticipated Black Widow kicked off Phase Four in the summer of 2021 in a big way. With how Avengers: Endgame left things, fans were curious to see how Natasha's story would continue in her solo film. Of course, Florence Pugh, as her sister with David Harbour and Rachel Weisz, made for a wildly entertaining ride.

'What If...?', Season 1 (2021)

'What If...?', Season 1 (2021)
Disney

One of two MCU series so far to have been renewed for a second season, What If...? answers the question: What would happen if the stories of our favorite Marvel superheroes played out differently? Some episodes ask questions we wouldn't even think to ask, making it all the more interesting. My favorite one so far has to be the Doctor Strange episode where he lost his heart instead of his hands.

'The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special' (2022)

'The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special' (2022)
Disney

Everyone loves a holiday special, and one with the Guardians of the Galaxy crew guarantees a good time. The obvious stars of this special are Mantis and Drax, simply for breaking into Kevin Bacon's house to kidnap him.

11 of 18

'Hawkeye' (2021)

'Hawkeye' (2021)
Disney

I didn't have high expectations for the Hawkeye miniseries, but I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed him teaming up with Kate Bishop and the fact that it's set during the holidays, with Clint basically only trying to defeat the bad guys so he can race home to see his family.

'Moon Knight' (2022)

'Moon Knight' (2022)
Disney

Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac, was, in a word, cool. A miniseries focusing on a superhero with dissociative identity disorder, plus the added element of Egyptian gods, was a different vibe, and I loved every minute of it.

'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law' (2022)

'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law' (2022)
Disney

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law 's self-awareness and ability to break the (phase) fourth wall are what make the series special. It has everything, or, should I say, everyone: Jameela Jamil, Tim Roth reprising his role as Abomination, the Sorcerer Supreme himself: Wong, Megan Thee Stallion for some reason, Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil, and of course, Mark Ruffalo. 10/10.

14 of 18

'Thor: Love and Thunder' (2022)

'Thor: Love and Thunder' (2022)
Disney

To some, Thor: Love and Thunder may be rather forgettable compared to other Marvel films. That said, I thought it was beautiful... and funny, as it is still Taika Waititi. My favorite of the Thor movies is still Thor: Ragnarok for obvious reasons, but Natalie Portman and Christian Bale acted their butts off in this, so hats off to them.

'Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness' (2022)

'Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness' (2022)
Disney

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness was freaking awesome. Following the events of WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff, AKA Scarlet Witch, is the villain of this story and is honestly kind of creepy. The film keeps you on the edge of your seat, reminding me that it's probably time for a rewatch.

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' (2021)

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' (2021)
Disney

Speaking of the multiverse, and apparently, Sam Raimi, who directed both the second Doctor Strange movie and the original Spider-Man trilogy, Spider-Man: No Way Homeblew minds, mine included! We had all of the "Spider-Men" return as Peter Parker and nearly all of the villains, which was nothing short of iconic. The film deserves all of the praise just for pulling this off.

'WandaVision' (2021)

'WandaVision' (2021)
Disney

WandaVision was so different than I could've ever expected in the best way. I was so confused at the beginning, but I loved how it all came together in the end. I wish there were more, but it accomplished all it needed to in only nine episodes. I loved getting to see more of Paul Bettany as Vision and such great characters as Agatha Harkness, Monica Rambeau, and Darcy Lewis.

'Loki,' Season 1 (2021)

'Loki,' Season 1 (2021)
Disney

Loki has always had a special place in my heart, so I was beyond excited when I heard he was getting his own show. The series just finished airing its second season on Disney+, and it couldn't have ended any better if you ask me. That said, if, for any possible reason, he could make another appearance in the future, I wouldn't be mad.
