21 TV shows the world said goodbye to in 2023

The television landscape can be cruel. One second, fans are enjoying their favorite show, and the next, it’s canceled, and they’re left wondering what could’ve become of their beloved characters. Not every show gets the ax, though. Some simply run their course. Whatever the reason, these are the TV shows that won’t be returning in 2024.

'Young Rock'

'Young Rock'
Universal Television

Despite having Dwayne Johnson backing it up and even appearing in episodes, the story of this wrestler-turned-entertainment mogul tapped out after three seasons.

'New Amsterdam'

'New Amsterdam'
Universal Television

Fans of New Amsterdam can't be too peeved as the show aired for five whole seasons and even got a legit finale. That is something not every show has the pleasure of getting nowadays.

'Home Economics'

'Home Economics'
ABC Signature

Somewhere on the ABC lineup, there was a show called Home Economics that premiered in 2021. It had a reasonable following, but its small and mighty fanbase was not enough to secure anything beyond a third season.

'Billions'

'Billions'
Showtime

Showtime has some work cut out for them in replacing their hit series, Billions, which starred Damian Lewis and ran seven seasons.

'Archer'

'Archer'
FXP

After 14 seasons, the animated gang in Archer finally peaced out, leaving fans of the FXX series a little saddened that they'd be without their favorite secret agent and company.

'Riverdale'

'Riverdale'
Warner Bros. Television Studios

No one could have guessed when Riverdale debuted back in 2017 that it would outlast the critically acclaimed One Day at a Time, the star power of Santa Clarita Diet, or the talent-packed dynamics of GLOW. Alas, it did.

'The Wonder Years'

'The Wonder Years'
20th Television

The Wonder Years pulled from the 1980s series but delivered something new by switching the focus to a family that most definitely had a different perspective living in 1960s America, but also found a way to subtly tie in the original. Great writing and characters couldn’t save this one, as two seasons were all it got.

'Mayans M.C.'

'Mayans M.C.'
FXP

Mayans M.C. came from the Sons of Anarchy realm and was just as popular with it lasting five seasons.

'iCarly'

'iCarly'
Paramount+

The acting on Nickelodeon and Disney shows is a bit much, so to be able to reboot one of those and make it work? Kudos to the cast and creators of iCarly, but not so much kudos to whoever decided to end the series with a major cliffhanger.

'Grand Crew'

'Grand Crew'
Universal Television

Grand Crew had the makings of the next New Girl, but with not enough promotion from its network, the show about a friend group living, loving, and drinking a lot of wine in Los Angeles didn’t pan out.

'Willow'

'Willow'
Lucasfilm

In 1988, the minds of George Lucas and Ron Howard combined, and from that, Willow. It's a fan-favorite of the '80s that Disney+ thought would fare well with a sequel series in 2023. Sadly, for fans of the original, the series was short-lived, with only one season featuring eight episodes ever making it out into the world.

'The Blacklist'

'The Blacklist'
Universal Television

Not a lot of TV shows get more than several seasons if they're lucky. So for The Blacklist to have a decade's worth of episodes under its belt is an impressive feat. James Spader’s Red will be missed.

'Never Have I Ever'

'Never Have I Ever'
Netflix

When a show is set in high school and starts with freshman year, it only makes sense for the show to wrap up by the time the students graduate, like Never Have I Ever did, but many fans would have loved to see at least one more season. Perhaps one day, a movie special that catches fans up right before the characters graduate college? Mindy Kaling, you got that?

'Barry'

'Barry'
HBO Entertainment

While it was time to bid farewell to the hitman-turned-actor, it still hurt to say the final goodbyes to Bill Hader’s Barry.

'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies'

'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies'

Fans took to social media to try and save Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies when it was canned after one season, but their cries went unheard as the Paramount+ series was not the one that they wanted.

'Succession'

'Succession'
HBO

Succession felt like one of those shows that could have lasted longer than it did, but it was wise not to overstay its welcome.

'A Black Lady Sketch Show'

'A Black Lady Sketch Show'
HBO Entertainment

While it only garnered four seasons, A Black Lady Sketch Show will go down as one of the best in the sketch comedy game. That's a fact.

'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'

'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'

Mrs. Maisel took her final bow after being one of Amazon Prime’s most popular and acclaimed series in recent years.

'The Muppets Mayhem'

'The Muppets Mayhem'
ABC Signature

The Muppets have been trying to make a comeback on TV for quite some time, and many thought The Muppets Mayhem was the show to finally do it. Unfortunately, the music stopped for this one after one season.

'Snowfall'

'Snowfall'
FXP

Snowfall highlighted one of the wildest times in modern history as it showcased life in Los Angeles during the '80s when drug use and distribution caused an epidemic. A great crime drama that won't be forgotten anytime soon.

'The Goldbergs'

'The Goldbergs'
Sony Pictures Television

The Goldbergs was a love letter to the pop culture and heart of the ‘80s that ran for 10 seasons, and it even had a bit of a shakeup in its cast due to real-life losses and a bit of behind-the-scenes drama. Despite all of that, The Goldbergs ended as tubular as they began.
